2026 WAVE/Ravenholt Seminar: The State of Smoke Science: Breakthroughs and Lessons April 22, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
This year’s WAVE combines two events into one—the annual WAVE research seminar and WSU’s Ravenholt Seminar series. A day for education, celebration, and connecting, WAVE will highlight smoke research efforts, including a tasting of smoke-affected wines, plus research posters and the keynote WSU Ravenholt lecture. The Washington State Wine Commission and WSU partner to produce WAVE events. The West Coast Smoke Exposure Task Force is sponsoring the 2026 WAVE seminar.
Arran Rumbaugh, USDA-ARS’s inaugural “smoke scientist” will present the Ravenholt Keynote address. She will provide an overview of priorities in smoke exposure research and key takeaways for the industry. Following Arran’s address, there will be a winemaker-guided tasting of wines with varying degrees of smoke exposure. Smoke exposure researchers from WSU, OSU, and UC-Davis will round out the program, which will be followed by a social hour.
Registration is $40 and is capped at 100 attendees. Registration will open in February.
